G4TV and other tidbits...

As I have said before I am a gamer so from time to time I enjoy watching G4 TV because they review and talk about video games. Now, it is no secret that an overwhelming majority of the media is liberal. If you think about it for a minute it makes perfect sense. The liberal left is all about the 1st amendment when it applies to their right to free speech but as soon as someone says something they don't like it should be censored. What better place to infect a majority of young people with your bullshit ideals than on a TV station that talks about items that particular demographic would find appealing. Let me be another person in the long line of people to tell you (and another you won't listen to) that you should be ashamed of yourself.

It reminds me of the 'limosine liberals' that talk about how much they give back by volunteering 8 hours of their day one day a year...give me a break.

Back to G4, I heard someone say that "he was going to use his imaginary journalism degree just like Fox News" (this is not a paraphrase either). Let me first say that I could care less to listen to any of the news channels. There is no news anymore, no reporting, only creation of issues to get yourself on TV. And they beat everything to death which is really annoying. When I first heard this I thought to myself "WOW, way to throw your liberal view points in a quick dig for all to hear". Then it occured to me how ridiculous his sentence was at face value. I mean think about it; I was unaware that inanimate objects were required to have degrees. Should I interview my channels to find out if they have attended university to make sure that they have the correct credentials to play music videos? I hope MTV went to Julliard so I know it has the correct education. If I listened to this guy and followed this plan I would be in a padded cell at Nutty Meadows.

If you really think about the phrase it might be one of the most insanely idiotic things you will hear in your lifetime. Honestly, are we supposed to take you seriously when you can't even form a thought into a sentence that makes sense and conveys the point. Here is a quick lesson for you at G4...CHECK YOUR PEOPLES BACKGROUNDS!!! I wouldn't worry about this guy having a college degree, check to make sure he has a HS diploma first. I wonder if he can spell his own name...

Now had he said, "Next I am going to make use of my fake journalism degree like the people at Fox News" I would have said nothing. Where did they find their writers JC Penney??? By the way isn't that the same place that Dan Akyroyd learned his Russian in "Spies Like Us"? Well done liberal media...and you wonder why people have such a high amount of disdain for you other than the fact that you create the news instead of reporting the news. Again, how can I take you seriously? No wonder our country is in so much trouble...

I love writing about everything but you never know this might be my last; once the Czar of the US (Usama, oops sorry, Obama) and his KGB get wind of this I may just disappear. You think that is over the top but that is the direction we are heading by having people like this poisoning the thoughts of our citizens. Pray for this idiot that he gets taken off the air and pray for our country so that these fools start to realize their mistakes. Maybe they will start to think about the citizens instead of their own agendas.

More Thoughts for the day...

Admittedly I am a video game freak; I love them. I was raised in an era where we had all the game systems just coming out. Just to give you the chronology of my video gaming....

First came the Intellivision. That's right kids there were games before the Nintendo. Next was the Nintendo, followed by the Super Nintendo, Turbo Grafx 16, Sega Genesis, Playstation 1, PS 2 (yep I was one of the people that stood in line), Xbox, Xbox 360 and finally PS3 and Wii. Like I said, VIDEO GAME FREAK.

Some people read books (I do too, I love a good book) or listen to the radio, I play games. They take me to a place in my imagination that books and shows do for people of different generations. To say I enjoy them would be a massive understatement; I am one of the lucky ones too that has a wife and family that is very understading.

That being said, Battlefield BC2 is one of the new games I have been playing. It's awesome and even though my extensive gaming history (as well as sports history competing) this game was my first foray into the online gaming community. Sports and competition in anything are virtually the same, I mean competition is competition and I guess I should not be surprised at the scumbags to decide to cheat to inflate their numbers. It just goes to show how much the video game community has in common with the cheating baseball players.

Next time one of you idiots is so quick to judge a sports figure for doping (which I do not condone, they should be suspended immediately) look at your own actions. Every time I play one of these games and you morons think you're awesome by sitting at the spawn points I quit and find a game where the players actually try to use some skill. If this is you and this describes your style let me be the first to tell you what everyone else is thinking. You are a dousche bag...

And to go a step further what is the point? I mean if you took steroids (however much I hate cheaters) I see the allure. You want more homers, more RBI's, more innings, more K's and ultimately more money. But what do you get by cheating at this game online??? Are you the coolest guy in the basement of your buddies parents house while you drink mountain dew? Here's an idea, get a beer, move out of your parents house, try to get a girl, be a man, and try to play the games the way they are intended to be played. My guess, you are too much of a pussy...

Grow up D-bags, you get nothing by being the guy with highest rank, most kills, or best kill to death ratio. I will however crown you as the most annoying, overrated, sorry excuse for a gamer on the internet.

Go F$#* yourself.

Oh and by the way anyone with DTH DEALER in their name you know this is for you....you'll probably get grounded by your parents soon for talking back. Have a nice evening.

Another day...LT, Pete, and a silly thought or two

...full of traffic and fun in my fair metropolitan city. One good thing about today though is that I received a free oil change for my car when they took longer than 29 minutes. Now, I know that what I am about to say probably thousands upon thousands of people already thought but why 29 minutes? Did the even half hour or another minute really make that much difference? It reminds me of the scene in "Something About Mary" with Ben Stiller and Harland Williams in the car about 7 and 6 minutes abs. Did someone else already have 30 minutes and they one up'd that place? Wow, I really over analyzed that...

Moving on...X26QWYRYNGGQ.

So, the Flyers continue to get whipped in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I really didn't watch Hockey too much in the past but in recent years I find myself watching more and more. The playoffs seem to be very good every year and we have the pleasure of having some really great talents in the NHL at the same time. Ilya Kovalchuk, Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Simon Gagne (best pure shooter), Danny Heatley, Alex Ovechkin, and many others.

One quick note from what I have seen in the playoffs to this point...San Jose is fast! They are running people off the ice right now, their forecheck pressure is outstanding, and outside of Pitt from the East I don't think that there is another team that can keep up. However, you never know what will happen and that is why they play the games. Another beautiful thing about sports; you never know what will happen when the puck drops, the ball is kicked off, or the first pitch is thrown.

In recent months I was one of the people hoping that they would stop talking about Tiger Woods however now I feel like his current streak of un-Tiger-like play is being pushed to the side. Tiger is not my favorite golfer but with that being said I could care less what he does with his own life. I feel bad for his wife but that is between them. I appreciate his talent but these things have a way of taking even the greatest champions and athletes out of their comfort level.

Oh, I almost forgot...Well done LT. I mean honestly, can we get this man out of the Football Hall of Fame? With all the things going on with Roger Goodell and his stance on punishing indiscretions that make the brand that is the NFL look bad, what can look worse??? How many times is this guy going to get in trouble before he makes the NFL take notice? Here is the thing too...I am not trying to get on my moral high horse but I think that this repeating or habitual offenses should apply to all NFL players past and present. They all have something still to do with the league and if I am not mistaken LT was just present at the draft about 2 weeks ago.

If this guy can stay in the NFL hall than Pete Rose can get in the MLB hall. LT was a great player but if we are comparing the two I don't think what Pete did and what the most recent thing LT has done are even in the same ballpark; heck, it's not even the same sport, literally. Crimes against children and women (or in this case both at the same time) have no place in society. Yet this man will keep his accolades because he no longer plays, or whatever other excuse they can come up with for him. Also, Pete was the greatest HITTER to play the game since Ty Cobb and Shoeless Joe. I was blessed to see Charlie Hustle in his prime and hope that I can see him enter the Hall. LT revolutionized the LB position but he doesn't hold a record even close to the stature of the hit record. Wake up NFL and MLB, remove LT, walk him out right through the under construction Brett Favre room and open the door for Pete.

As you can tell I love sports. Sometimes there is a feeling in me that I learned more between the lines than I did in college. All the people who played sports, organized sports, understand about business more than people give them credit for inside the walls of their offices. They teach leadership, team, bonding, psychology, attitude, work ethic, and many other things utilized in modern day business. I wish there more people who treated their business team like a sports team and I think efficiency, productivity, and moral would rise beyond beleif. Oh and by the way, just so I am speaking in business exec language that means more revenues and profits too.

Have a nice day...

Long Delay...

Since I last wrote a lot has changed, not only with me but with our wonderful country and world. We are in the midst (or maybe coming out of) the worst recession that this country has seen in quite some time and we have a new president. So much to talk about but today I guess I would like to talk about the changes that have been made in business since I started over 14 years ago.

I have never hid the fact that I am from the Northeast. As a matter of fact, I wear it on my sleeve most days as a badge of honor. People from this particular part of the country will know what I am talking about; whether you are from New York, Philly, Boston, Baltimore, or DC we show our pride through University affilition with our city of origin not far behind. This is not to say that everyone is not proud of where they came from, I just seem to notice that people from this part of country, not matter where they live now, still have their home city in them in some way. You take me out of New York but you can't take New York out of me...

Now with that out of way let me say that I always thought business was business. My current place of residence, University, and other things will remain anonymous but I will let you know that I have been in the office furniture business for 14 years. The last few years have taught me differently. I always chalked it up the recession, changes in the business climate because of downturn, and some other mitigating factors. I am here today to tell you that is all garbage.

After starting my own company at a very early age I learned about the business from the school of hard knocks; making mistakes, learning from them, and trying not repeat them allowed me to take a company started with just lil' 'ol me and turn it into a force in the industry with 20 employees. This makes me fully aware of what it takes to run a business, handling all aspects, whether in the light or behind the scenes. When I became a business owner which made me the highest level of management there is inside a company (since I had to be hands on) I quickly learned that there was certain things I did not have the right to do anymore. For instance, I did not have the right to walk away from a situation because I did not want to deal with it at that particular time because it is STILL an issue. If there is not resolution we can't just let our employees be thrown to wolves and allow of customers to be left in lurch with no answers. However, this seems to be common place in this business today which is not only completely unprofessional, unacceptable, and just utterly ridiculous but does nothing to help business progress.

By the way, quick lesson for all you business execs out there who are too cool for school...here's an idea, stop eating into precious margin by always trying to be the lowest price and start trying to value prop yourself by providing good service. How about looking for quality of business over quantity. If I do less jobs at a higher margin will I not either come out the same or do better than someone who takes any job at crappy margins?

And another thing, stop hiring people who are only looking to draw a salary and get someone in the front door who wants to make a difference. Most (can't say all) but most of the execs in this office furniture business are either the worst hiring managers in the world or just completely inept at reading individuals during the interview process. They don't want anyone who is a perceived threat, who is outspoken, or has the fortitude to stand up for what they beleive is right because then they become the problem. When did it become wrong to look at something broken and try to fix it? Accountability has completely been removed from this business and our country on a whole. It's sad really...

Quick sports lesson for you as well. When you play sports it comes down to preparation and execution. When you practice you run plays until they are right and executed correctly. As an athlete you are taught from an early age that if something is wrong you fix it immediately before it causes more problems. Take note of this execs because you are failing miserably in this category.

The other thing that I learned was that you cannot deal with 2 different situations or people in the same manner. This is psychology 101 for those of you in this business who have no idea what I am talking about (and by the way, shame on you if you don't). If you have ever played sports you know where this is going but as a QB there are certain people you can grab by the facemask, bless out, and they will respond. Others will shut down by this treatment so you need understand the personalitlies you are dealing with on this type of PERSONAL (that's right, everything is personal people!) level. Another quick lesson for you...if you are going to preach a "team" atomosphere learn what a team is all about and put people in a position to lead that can do it and succeed. If you are going to be a team, have someone who can motivate and lead a team so that you get where you want to be in the end, otherwise you are the St. Louis Rams and you lose a whole lot more than you win.

Quick thought but was anyone else pissed off by the Wal Mart commercial where they talk about saving the public money with rollbacks by packing the trucks full and changing their routes to save gas??? Shouldn't you have been packing the trucks full since the beginning, and don't come to me with this holier than thou routine for changing the trucks routes. That should be part of your continous effort from day one to find the best processes for ultimate business optimization. Now that I vented about that...

Remember at the beginning of this thing when I told you about the recession and other factors being garbage? Let me elaborate of that for a minute...what I mean by that is not to say that they have no impact but for a company that is run well, has people put in a position to succeed by management, and has the right people in place to run a team (I believe a coach in the NFL would refer to this as being a leader of men) they felt very little impact from those types of things. Why? Because they focused on service; they didn't get the business in the door and not have the support staff to service the customer. They have repeat business because they care and fix issues when they arise not turn their back hoping it will go away. Although most times it does go away, and so does the customer. No issue, and no revenue from that customer either.

I am guessing you are asking yourself what is the point of the last paragraph? Here it is...every last thing someone has told you from a management perspective is an excuse that allows them to not take any responsibility for what they have done or in most cases not done. It's shameful, disgraceful, and is rotting the lifeblood of this country (small business, since the Obama Administration has forgotten that) from the inside out. They are taking one thing and calling it something else which is completely alleviating all responsibility for their actions and the actions of their people. It's not that our process is not working, it's because the business isn't there...it's not that our management team is not leading like they should, it's that people just are not buying....it's all the blame game, passing the buck, however you want to say it and I can tell you there are some professionals at this game in the office furniture world.

Wait, I had another epiphany. How about if you step up, stop these types of games, and just take care of the customer. Since I am now on the customer side of things I want you to know that I see these games and as soon as I do I am looking for another company to do business with immediately. I am stuck in the middle of your garbage company politics and I do not have time for it at all. Figure it out, get the right people in the right positions, then maybe we will do some business.

Now, I am by no means the best exec in the world, the smartest and I am always learning. Maybe if a few of you in this business would take a step back, humble yourselves, and listen to the people you work with you would be in a better position and your company would too. However, I suspect that most of you don't care about the company as long as you are still collecting on your salary. So what if you aren't taking home the extra percentage for bonus, you still make more that just about everyone in the building and you have authority.

I am sure I will talk about this again in the future as it is a passion of mine; being in business for this long I know that I have a lot left to learn but I also know that a large percentage of it is common sense application of more formal training procedures. I just wish there was more common sense involved in this business because I met a lot of good people and really would have like to made it a lifelong career.

Take care and GOD Bless.
